Max V | Huny XO
September 28, 2024
From the near horizon’s edge, September 28th arrived—
and with it, MAXV took control of The Basement.
A Los Angeles native with deep Berlin roots, MAX began spinning in Hollywood clubs at the formative age of 19. From hotspots to cultish watering holes, he held down residencies at Purple Lounge, The Whiskey, Paul & Andres, Hemingway’s, and Bar Marmont—eventually stepping into his current role as music director for Gran Blanco.
But behind the velvet ropes, MAXV was quietly nurturing an obsession with the late-night frequencies of Sarcastic Disco and MFD, attending ceremoniously during their heydays. These parallel paths—industry mainstay and dancefloor devotee—shaped his deep-digging sensibility and expanded his sonic range. His sets reflect this duality: tastemaking as art, delivered through both vinyl and digital, with a reverence for sound that extends all the way to the gear itself.
Guided by an affection for the warmth of Klipsch soundsystems—the very soul of The Basement—MAXV began designing and building his own bespoke speaker line, VILLE SOUND. Over time, he’s contributed to our own La Scala arsenal, completing a communal loop we were proud to bring full circle. That night, the doctor returned to the temple—his selections left us floored, curious, and craving more.
On extended opening duties, we had the absolute pleasure of presenting Huny Young aka HUNY XO (she/they)—a DJ and event curator soundtracking spaces through the Mostbeautifullest collective.
Born in New York and now based in Pittsburgh (named Person of the Year in Music 2021 by Pittsburgh City Paper), HUNY’s work is rooted in celebrating and centering Black women & QTBIPOC communities. As co-founder and Experience Lead of Honcho’s Queer Fam Fund, she’s worked to expand access and visibility in nightlife— a mission that pulses through every space she touches.
HUNY has played across America’s most iconic cities and earned festival credits from Honcho Campout, Somos, Desertopia, and Bahidorá. Her sets are genre-fluid and highly danceable—think club, house, techno, dancehall, hip-hop, and anything else with a nasty beat that deserves its due.
We were quivering in our boots for these two sonic architects to custom-tailor their sound for the Basement temple—and the night did not disappoint.
Until next time—under the flickering of the light beams. :)
And on extended opening duties, we had the ultimate pleasure of presenting Huny Young, aka HUNY XO (she/they)—a DJ and event curator soundtracking and producing events via the Mostbeautifullest collective.
HUNY XO was bred in New York but is currently based in nearby Pittsburgh (named Person of the Year in Music 2021 by Pittsburgh City Paper). HUNY’s work in music is rooted in exalting Black women & QTBIPOC communities. As a co-founder and the Experience Lead of Honcho's Queer Fam Fund, her mission has been to expand visibility and access in nightlife culture—a pure through-line in everything she tackles. HUNY has played all of America’s benchmark cities and holds festival credits including Honcho Campout, Somos, Desertopia, and Bahidorá. Their sets are best described as highly danceable, genre-defying club, house, techno, dancehall, and hip-hop—anything with a nasty beat finding ample rotation in her crates.
We were absolutely quivering in our boots for these two talents to custom-tailor their sound to the Basement temple for upliftment—and the night did not disappoint.
Until next time, under the flickering of the light beams. :)
