Sonns | Dirte Blonde
August 31, 2024
On August 31st, we had the honor of welcoming two exceptional artists to The Basement—
each bringing their own distinct sonic identity to the night.
We kicked things off with Dirtie Blonde, whose deep connection to the dancefloor was forged in the heart of Chicago’s house and disco scene. That early influence sparked her DJ career, and now, based in LA, she effortlessly blends her Chicago roots with the laid-back energy of the West Coast. Her sets are a vibrant collage of disco’s many shades—infused with global flair and modern rhythm.
As our opening DJ, she set the tone with a signature sound that wove together the past and present—drawing the crowd in with warmth and groove, setting the perfect foundation for what was to come.
Following her, we had the immense pleasure of hosting Alexandre Mouracade (aka SONNS) for his Basement debut. A true keeper of the flame in LA’s underground, SONNS has spent over two decades shaping the city’s sonic landscape. From co-founding Making Shapes—a pillar of LA’s event culture—to launching recent projects like In Between and DISCOS XXX, he continues to stretch the boundaries of creative and spatial expression.
His roots run deep, from the Southern California punk scene to jazz improvisation and music theory—a journey that eventually led him to the world of synths, vinyl, and analog production. His sets are never confined to a single genre, always driven by a digger’s ear and a commitment to the perfect moment. His productions have landed on legendary labels like Kompakt, ESP Institute, and Internasjonal, and his collaborative project Split Secs (with TK) has lit up dancefloors around the world.
Together, Dirtie Blonde and SONNS crafted a night of pure sonic magic—
guiding us through an unforgettable journey on The Basement’s sacred floor.
Until next time—under the flicker of the light beams.
