We open the new chapter the way we like it: slow burn, deep crates, full hearts. The first Basement of the year isn’t just a party — it’s a tone-setter for the months ahead, a signal of the music we’re committing to and the stories we want to tell on the floor.

For this one, we welcome ALVARO — a serious digger, a lifelong student of sound, and a selector whose record bags carry both history and heat. Alvaro is the kind of DJ who spends as much time with his hands in dusty crates as he does behind the decks, pulling out forgotten gems, love-worn grooves, and rhythm that feels lived-in rather than polished.

A longtime fixture of Sunset Campout, Alvaro is known for soundtracking those in-between moments — openings, closings, sunrises — where funk, disco, house, and tribal rhythms stretch out and breathe. His sets smile back at you. They move patiently, then all at once.

Born in Lima, Peru, Alvaro’s musical DNA runs deep and wide — shaped early by folkloric rhythms and sounds from across continents, later refined through years of digging, producing, and evolving alongside the music itself. That global sensibility lives in his selections: soulful, percussive, future-leaning, and grounded all at once.

These days, he’s also the force behind Songs for Lovers in San Francisco — a party rooted in romance, groove, and devotion to the record, where dancers come to listen as much as they come to move.

January 31st is our first dance of the year.
